We have over 50 years of combined experience in high performance and low energy building design and renovation, Engineering 350 provides the leadership, knowledge and experience to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment. No project is too small; all projects in the built environment need to be zero-carbon projects.

The most recent science tells us that unless we reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause significant and irreversible damage to the environment. Spanning the entire evolution of the human species up to the Industrial Revolution, the concentration of carbon in the atmosphere remained at roughly 275 parts per million. Now, according to NASA scientist James Hansen, the bottom line for the planet is 350 parts per million carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. We are currently at 383 parts per million.

Over 70% of energy consumption and 38% of carbon emissions are from construction, operation and decommissioning; thus the built environment is the single biggest contributor to anthropogenic global warming. All new and existing building projects need focused, robust strategies to reduce carbon emissions. Retrofitting existing buildings within a short time frame and more importantly ensuring their performance conforms to best practice standards are priorities.
