Commercial

Engineering 350 has extensive experience with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire/ Life Safety design for a broad project range of building types including office, institutional buildings, universities, museums, restaurants and hospitality. Sustainability is the core principle that guides our practice whether projects seek LEED® certification or not.

Collectively, the firm's goal is to deliver simple, elegant solutions to achieve efficient thermal comfort and indoor air quality for the built environment. We use state of the art Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools in unison with the architecture team to provide positive confirmation of full project coordination.

Engineering 350 is comfortable with a variety of project procurement and delivery methods. In addition to traditional design bid build we have experience with CMAR, Design Build, Modified Design Build and Design/Assist services.

Engineering 350 also provides Peer Review services. Equipped with extensive commissioning and design experience, Engineering 350 is well qualified to provide detailed feedback and critique on proposed designs.

Residential

Engineering 350 provides high-level engineering services that are affordable for small-scale residential clients. These services include but are not limited to:

Building Simulation Modeling

  • Ensures system is not oversized, a typical occurrence in conventional practice

  • Provides feedback to architect in regards to building envelope efficiency

  • Allows owner to understand how building will react during adverse temperatures

  • Facilitates design of passive systems

  • Optimizes Building Fenestration and ventilation strategies

Complete System Design

  • System design drawings and specification to ensure owner's requirements are met

  • Set strict efficiency standards to avoid contractor redesign

  • Coordinate all critical items to avoid construction delays

Building Energy

Engineering 350 provides building performance modeling using the most advanced software package available. Results yield accurate predictions of building energy use intensity and are used for life cycle costing of building systems, appropriate design considerations for net zero energy buildings, as well as benchmark standards for rating systems such as LEED®. Using this energy data, Engineering 350 provides carbon emissions predictions for the buildings being modeled. The use of advanced building performance modeling also serves as a great aid in determining optimal thermal comfort within a building as well as increased indoor air quality. Daylighting and radiance models are often incorporated into the energy models created to analyze solar gains and optimize shading strategies.

In addition to energy modeling capabilities, Engineering 350 can also provide natural ventilation studies as well as in-depth CFD simulations. Results of such simulations can provide an accurate and detailed depiction of the natural ventilation effectiveness within a building or residence, and highlight areas that require improvement of ventilation effectiveness.

Engineering 350 can also provide investment grade energy audit services for existing commercial and residential buildings. After an initial documentation review of the systems, measurement and modeling work is performed to analyze the building’s energy use patterns and energy savings potential. Engineering 350 will then recommend energy saving strategies based on the capital availability and Return on Investment analysis. Engineering 350 can assist the client in qualifying for any appropriate state or federal rebates related to the energy savings measures being carried out.

Sustainable Consultants

We believe that all good design comes from an integrated approach starting at the inception of design. As sustainable consultants the Engineering 350 team inserts itself as an integral member of the design team. We will organize and lead sustainable work sessions involving all stakeholders to develop and prioritize the project’s sustainability goals and strategies.

Engineering 350 can also facilitate LEED® documentation. We will guide the design team through each of the LEED® credits and target those that are appropriate for the project as well as recommend innovation credits that the project could achieve. As the design progresses we will ensure that the correct consultants stay on track to achieve the targeted credits.

We can also use LEED® and other sustainable building rating systems as guide frameworks in a project assessment where certification is not desired.

We assist building owners and property managers with implementation of the LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance rating system and generate practical, cost-effective programs for sustainable operations that enhance property value and reduce operating costs.

Master Planning

A carbon-free future cannot be achieved by following past trends. Designing resilient, future proof and sustainable communities and infrastructure requires a vision beyond trends. We look to where society needs to go and where issues like water will take us during the infrastructure’s life cycle. We look at where codes and legislation will need to go to facilitate sustainable and regenerative solutions. The results are master plans that are zero-carbon, zero-waste and water independent, that are resilient and adaptable to global warming, flooding and drought.

We are skilled at managing the available natural capital such as sunlight, shading, wind and geothermal sources to achieve zero building energy and carbon intensity.

Our understanding of micro-climates allows us to use passive strategies to optimize site orientation, zoning, massing, fabric and natural ventilation. Thermal comfort is guaranteed by optimized building and landscape shading, user control and natural ventilation where appropriate.
